To know and revere the Word of God is life-transforming. At Revering the Word, we encourage people to follow a one-chapter-a-day Bible reading plan and listen to the Revering Word Podcast to help them gain greater understanding.
So, how did Revering the Word come about? My personal devotional method for the past couple of decades has been to study one chapter of the scripture daily, reading for quality rather than quantity. There is a vast difference between studying and reading. I have found a devotional study method of consuming the Bible incredibly beneficial to my faith and devotion to God. One can study the whole Bible every three years with this method of reading one chapter a day. This method has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. In addition, others who have taken this challenge have also testified to the positive change this has made in their faith.
“It takes a whole Bible to make a whole Christian.”
One of the great tragedies of our day is that many Christians only know cherry-picked verses of the Bible commonly preached on a Sunday morning. How can one get to know the whole Jesus if they don’t know the whole Bible? It is essential to know what is true so that one can also recognize what is false. Man is being deceived today by the world's twisting of God’s Word. The best way to overcome this immense problem is to learn the whole counsel of God's Word for yourself. The most impactful way to learn the Word is to slow down and study it while learning from someone who has invested significantly in gaining a deeper and proper understanding.
One of the men of God I have learned from is the late great teacher Vernon McGee. Vernon McGee's ministry was to preach through the scriptures in an expository manner. His example inspired me to teach through the scriptures and has helped lead to Revering the Word. He called those who listened part of the Bible bus. You are invited, as Vernon McGee coined, to join us on the Revering the Word Bible Bus.
Teaching from Pastor Jay Cavaiani with an emphasis on revering the Word of God.
The Corinthian church struggled with conflict and in the closing chapter of this letter Paul sets a high standard. Conflict is hard and challenging but it is made exponentially worse when people do not honor God’s instruction. When in conflict seek to keep your emotions in check and any conflict you can simply overlook it is best to do so. It is to a man’s glory to overlook an offense. (Proverbs 19:11) If the offense is too big then the most important thing is to not gossip and slander and to go and talk to the person alone. Be careful about those who gossip, slander and do not obey God’s instruction. Next time someone comes to you with gossip I would encourage you to stop the conversation otherwise you mistakenly can encourage their gossip. There is more shared in the podcast.
Other scriptures to consider are:
Proverbs 18:17 (LSB) The first to plead his case seems right, Until another comes and examines him.
Matthew 18:15-17 (LSB) 15 “Now if your brother sins, go and show him his fault, between you and him alone; if he listens to you, you have won your brother.
16 “But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED. 17 “And if he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as the Gentile and the tax collector.
